“She advanced the realignment of U.S. Forces in Okinawa, promoted women’s empowerment in Japan, and increased student exchange between the U.S. and Japan,” said the White House.
The 64-year-old said she looks forward to collaborating with the Australian government to strengthen the alliance between the two nations, improve global health and increase vaccine access during the COVID-19 pandemic, and to address the urgent climate crisis.
“I am excited to get to know the Australian people, learn about their fascinating country and share with them what I love most about America,” said Kennedy in a statement through the presidential mansion.
Kennedy will need a Senate confirmation to take office.
Former President Kennedy was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald on Nov. 22, 1963 while riding in his motorcade in Dallas, Texas.
